This week’s Vampire Diaries finally brought back the action and suspense that we’ve been waiting for. We had talks of threesomes, some sappy Stelena moments and Alaric going off his rocker in a style that makes him even scarier than when Klaus was possessing his body. In short the episode was AWESOME. The only thing that would have made it better was Klaus himself. Oh well…he’ll be back next week and it shall be glorious.
We start with Elena and Meredith giving Alaric a cat scan to see if they can notice anything inside his brain to indicate why he was going all crazy. Meredith admits she has suspected Alaric capable of the murders since she discovered his magic ring. Her reason for protecting Ric is just stupid: She’s a doctor she wants to help people with stuff they have no control over. Right so protecting a murderer is okay? Dumb dumb dumb. Also? Let’s just say Ric looks creepy as hell in that MRI machine. You can see his evil ego slowly overtaking him and it’s just…wow.
So of course they don’t find anything wrong with Alaric and Damon comes by to get Ric out of the hospital and Elena lets him have it for letting Stefan feed on an innocent girl last week. Damon sort of lets her have it back for being concerned about Stefan when she should be worried about Alaric and points out that he didn’t LET Stefan feed off a girl, he MADE him do it to make sure Stefan learns self- control.
Back over at Abby’s farm Bonnie and Caroline are helping Abby adjust to being a vampire. Abby is sulking because she can’t feel her garden—oh and apparently Bonnie made her dead-beat vampire mother that she barely knows a daylight ring. You know, Bonnie can be a hypocrite sometimes. She only helps the vampires she wants to help, she’s giving access to daylight a vampire who doesn’t have control—to a woman she barely knows. Caroline, trying to be the helpful ball of sunshine she is has gotten lots of blood from the blood bank. I love Caroline.
Meanwhile, Damon, Alaric and Meredith go to the groundbreaking ceremony to start the restoration of the Whickery Bridge. Alaric doesn’t want to be there and it seems the mayor was counting on him to bring a sign he was supposed to restore. Whoops? I guess Alaric was too busy murdering people to remember to do that. Oh well, it’s no biggie, the mayor will get it from him another time. Damon then spots a familiar face in the crowd—oh hi Sage. Fancy of you to show up just when Damon was reminiscing about you a day ago!
But Rebecca isn’t happy to see Sage. It seems that Rebekah and Sage did not approve of Sage and Finn’s relationship. Sage just wants to see Finn (and she called Klaus a rage-o-holic, it was awesome guys, seriously.) Damon still can’t believe that Sage was into Mr. Suicidal vampire. I can’t either. Sage strikes me as more of a lesbian and Finn strikes me as gay. I just can’t see him attracting a girl or being attracted to girls. After Rebekah basically tells Sage that Finn just isn’t that into her, she leaves and Sage calls her an ‘elitist original bitch’ (and again it was awesome) and hopes that Damon isn’t all BFFs with her.
Stefan is alone in his house and practicing ‘moderation’ by nomming on a bag of human blood when Elena waltzs into the house looking for a journal of her ancestor. Stefan and Elena have an awkward moment together, they don’t really know what to say each other after last night, but Stefan, being very tactless tells Elena that there is no hope for Alaric. After going crazy and being committed to an institution, Samantha Gilbert killed herself by giving herself a lobotomy with a knitting needle. So according to Stefan, Alaric is probably going to die. Boo, Stefan go and comfort your woman right now!
Back at the groundbreaking ceremony, Sage and Damon hatch a plan to get into Rebekah’s head to find out why she’s snooping around. Damon goes and flirts with her and basically suggest she comes over to his house and they have a threesome. Now my guess is Rebekah is thinking/hoping/assuming that this threesome is between her, Damon and Stefan—which….again…would be awesome.
At Abby’s house, Jamie (you remember him right? Abby’s not-son) is wanting to stay as far away from the house and Abby as possible because she’s a vampire. Honestly, given his experiences with vampires (Stefan and Klaus’ hybrid) I can’t say that I blame him. He doesn’t even trust Caroline, but she gives him a stern talking to and tells him that Abby needs him. Hey, kid? Go with your gut instinct. Stay away from vampires.
Meanwhile, Alaric is going through the records that Meredith had on him. He has a reason for every fight that he was in. Everyone was a jerk or a douche who did bad things. He also tells her that he was the one who staked her cousin Logan Fell. It doesn’t seem to bother her. She’s not here to judge the vampires, just vervain them, take their blood and use it for her own medical purposes.
Back at the house, Damon tells Stefan to scram unless he wants this threesome to become a foursome. Stefan is not into having sexy times with his brother and two hot chicks—one whom he used to screw on a regular basis in the 1920’s. Stefan gets in Damon’s face for talking to Elena—but Damon basically tells him to stop his whining and own up to the fact that he’s a vampire.
Back at Abby’s, Jamie did not listen to his gut instinct and goes into the house to see Abby and give his not-mom a hug. This proves to be a disaster because apparently Jamie smells uber good to Abby and she bites her not-son. Thankfully Bonnie uses her witch magic to migraine Abby away from Jamie. Should of listened to your gut instinct kid.
Back at Salvatore Estates, Damon and Sage wait for Rebekah to show up. Basically Sage theorizes because Rebekah is so needy for attention and fears being alone that she’ll totally come to this threesome. Well, Rebekah does come—she stole some wine from Klaus who stole it from a Queen—but Rebekah has no idea which one which tells us that Klaus was bedded and stole from tons of royal people. He probably compelled King Henry VIII to kill his wives and shit.
Damon seduces Rebekah—and I have to admit, I’d kind of like them as a couple, because it would totally piss off Klaus to have his little sister sleeping with the guy who has caused him such trouble the past few months, and because these two have great chemistry. They have hot sex (off screen and without Sage) and while Rebekah is sleeping, Sage gets inside her head and sees what Rebekah is looking for: The White Oak Tree. However, Sage peaks into Damon’s mind too and sees that the Originals are linked together. Since she can’t let her one true wub Finn die, she has to let Rebekah in on Damon’s plans and she burns the bridge. Damon promises Sage to personally end Finn’s life himself for her betrayal. I don’t see why Sage is so attracted to Finn—I really don’t. He’s a creepy momma’s boy.
Alaric gives Elena paperwork that will give her access to his bank account and will and how to contact his parents if something happens to him. He wants to make sure that she and Jeremy will be taken care of. Personally, I think this is sweet—Alaric truly cares about Elena and Jeremy—while I’m pretty sure the inheritance they got from their parents, Jenna’s death and surely John’s death that they are more than okay, it’s nice to see that Alaric is taking care of them. I mean it’s not like he can leave his money to Isobel or anything.
Meanwhile, Abby has considered running away, but Bonnie tells her she needs to stay so they can work things out between them. Abby is afraid of hurting Jamie or Abby, but agrees to stay. Caroline healed Jamie with some vampire blood and now needs a favor from Abby and Bonnie: A way to help Alaric. Bonnie is on her way to help Elena while Caroline stays behind to help Abby. Bonnie doesn’t seem super happy to go see Elena again, but like a trooper she’s doing it. She will need a personal item of Alaric’s that he wore before he started wearing the ring. So Alaric sends Elena to get his wedding ring while Meredith stays behind with him. Um—stupid much? Farwell Meredith, you couldn’t last forever.
Stefan meets Elena at Alaric’s house and she’s wary of his being here. Stefan tells her that he isn’t trying to hurt her, but he can’t be the man she wants him to be right now, he’s not in control and doesn’t want to hurt her. However, he did more digging on Samantha Gilbert and found out that the madness and violent behavior can still carry on in the person after they stop wearing the ring.
Meanwhile Alaric has slipped back into his murderer persona and goes and destroys the tranquilzer darts that Meredith has before sliding up behind her and very creepily asking her if she ever feels remorse. He claims that the founding families claim to hate the supernatural but they look away when it suits their needs. Even Meredith uses vampire blood to fit her own agenda. And then he attacks her and chases her up the stairs until she locks herself in the bathroom. Seriously, Alaric is terrifying as he orders her to open the door. Matt Davis needs to play more evil roles. We got a taste of his dark side when Klaus was possessing his body and now we are getting an even better taste of it. Evil!Alaric is awesome. Evil!Alaric and Klaus should be drinking buddies and home boys.
Back at Alaric’s Elena is looking for the wedding ring and Stefan asks her what she’s going to do with Alaric if Bonnie’s spell doesn’t work. Elena tells him that she isn’t going to “do anything” and continue to find a way to help him. Stefan points out that it’s not her job to save everyone, she can’t save everyone. She asks him if she’s referring to Alaric or himself because she has no plans on giving up on either of them. Stelena, please come back to me. It has been a long and lonely season without you.
What they find is really chilling. Alaric has a hit list of founding family members to kill so the council can be ‘cleansed’ (WTF does that mean?) and has a letter to be sent to Jeremy to carry on his work if anything happens to him because Jeremy has the other ring.
Dude…
Elena…call Jeremy. Call Jeremy right now and tell him to take off that fucking ring and stop using it. Look, I get that Jonathan Gilbert wanted to protect his family from supernatural attacks and had the foresight to realize that the vampires wouldn’t go away forever and intended to keep his family safe, but I don’t think he’d want this to happen to him and would rather them die for good rather than be cold blooded killers. When the Bennett witches (I’m assuming Emily) made the ring, I don’t think that was their intent either. Seriously, I know Elena loves Alaric and Jeremy but they need to take the ring off. Grayson and John would not want that type of madness to take over Jeremy or anyone else. TAKE IT OFF NOW.
Stefan and Elena go back to the house to find it a mess. Alaric comes down stairs with a bloody towel wrapped around his hand claiming he accidentally broke a coffee cup and cut his hands on it and that Meredith had to leave for last minute surgery. Elena can tell something is wrong with Alaric but is trying not to show how suspicious she is. She lies and tells him that she couldn’t find his wedding ring. Elena notices the knife he used to attack Meredith on the floor and Alaric moves like he’s going to attack her and Stefan puts him in a sleeper hold knocking him unconscious. Stefan can smell the blood upstairs and asks for Elena’s help. They go upstairs to find an injured (almost dead but not quite) Meredith and when it looks like Stefan is going to lose control, he bites into his wrist and feeds Meredith his blood to heal her. Fun Fact: This is the first scene that husband and wife Paul Wesley and Torrey DeVito have shared on screen.
Ric wakes up the next day and Bonnie has performed the spell for him off screen. Damon is taking him back to the loft and putting him on ‘House Arrest’. When he asks what happened to Meredith, Damon gets quiet before assuring her that she’ll be alright. In the kitchen, Elena is grateful for Bonnie’s help and apologizes yet again for what happened to Abby. It really isn’t Elena’s fault that these things happen to her friends, Damon and Stefan refuse to let her die and as such her friends get in the cross-fire. But wouldn’t we all do anything for those we love? I know I’d go to hell and back for my best friend if I had to. The prices are steep, but Elena is pretty powerless to stop it herself. Honestly, I still say if they leave Klaus alone he’ll leave them alone to live their lives. Why have the strongest/baddest vampire of all time pissed off at you? Make sure you’re on his good side, geez. Anyway, Bonnie said she’s going to go back and help Abby with the garden some more…
Transition to Jamie and Caroline working on the garden, Caroline is a sucky gardener and with her super vampire hearing hears Abby wake up and goes in to check on her to see that Abby is once again bailing. Caroline tries to give her a heartfelt speech saying that she can help Abby be a better vampire, but she can’t help Abby be a good mother, that’s all on her. Leaving again would hurt Bonnie and Jamie, but Abby can’t risk hurting them and leaves. This is sure to devastate Bonnie and Jamie. If Abby can’t deal with being a vampire, she needs to pull up her big girl pants, take the ring that Bonnie made her off and just end it. She’s leaving the safety of her house where a skilled vampire can HELP her and going off on her own where she can be a danger to people. How is that in any way shape or form smart?
For the best surprise of the episode Elena calls and talks to Jeremy! HI JEREMY! I’ve really missed you!! Jeremy seems to be doing well where he’s at, he’s not flunking any of his classes, he’s made some new friends and he got a dog (I will seriously laugh my ass off if Price is right and Tyler is Jeremy’s dog.) Elena wants to know if Jeremy has talked to Alaric lately, but he hasn’t. Elena assures him he shouldn’t be worried and she just misses talking to him. Jeremy tells her he’ll call her later because he’s going out with some friends.
….
…
…
Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me? She didn’t tell him about the ring? Elena, that should be your first order of business. Look, I know if Jere knew Alaric was in trouble and Elena was in danger and all that he’d want to come back home, but really, this ring could end up destroying Jeremy too and she’s not telling him to take it off and destroy it immediately? What the hell? Furthermore, I know Jere was compelled to go away and all, but isn’t he the least bit concerned with his sister being in a town of vampires when last time Jeremy checked Stefan was still evilish and Elena was on Klaus’ “To make life miserable list.” Show some compassion and concern for each other guys.
The show ends with a pleasant surprise. Damon comes back from Ric’s loft to find Stefan drinking whiskey. Damon teases that it’s a little early in the day for Stefan to be drinking. Stefan is having a toast to his self-control, and in a very touching moment, Damon tells Stefan if he’s happy then Damon is happy. Seriously, can these two like man hug each other please? Go play football like old times guys. Damon is in a gleefully good mood despite the fact that Sage is a double crossing bitch, the tree is destroyed and Damon’s BFF Alaric has a killer alter-ego, and Damon reveals the sign that Carol Lockwood wanted from Alaric at the beginning of the show. It’s the restored Whickery Bridge sign…made from White Oak. OH SNAP.
So this episode was pretty great. I missed the lack of Klaus and I really want Stelena back, but it was better than last week’s episode was. We are coming closer and closer to the conclusion. I don’t think it bodes well for Klaus guys. Which makes me wonder who they are going to possibly top him in the villain realm.
Next week somebody dies. From the previews we see Finn is lured back to Mystic Falls and Bonnie is forced to work on a spell for Klaus. Hmm. Could it be a spell to undo the binding spell? Who will die? Alaric won’t be in next week’s episode and I know they’d give him better than an off-screen death. Does Meredith survive her injuries? Does Damon make good on his promise and kill Finn? Or does Sage die? By whose hands will it be? Oh ya, Damon is gonna get tortured by Rebekah too. Ouch. After next week’s episode we will have to wait 3 weeks before we get the episodes that will conclude this season of Vampire Diaries.
Questions:
-Will Katherine make a cameo before the season is over?
-Will Elijah and Kol make a cameo before the season is over?
-Do you want Klaus to live on and terrorize Mystic Falls for a few more seasons?
-Will Stefan and Elena ever get back together?
-Is Ric done for?
See you next week!

1912 Brings Interesting Flashbacks, But Not Much Else
After what seems like forever, but in reality was only a month, The Vampire Diaries returned from their hiatus and brought forth a new episode. While it was nice to have the show back on the air, this wasn’t the type of episode I was expecting after a month long hiatus. The episode left more questions than answers. However, we have the show back and that is all that matters.
The episode, titled “1912” is a flashback episode, showing us more of the relationship between Damon and Stefan in the old days as well as Elena and Matt playing detective to uncover the identity of the serial killer.
Our episode opens with Alaric waking up in jail and telling Carol Lockwood and Liz Forbes that Meredith Fell is framing him for murder. Liz doesn’t quite believe him and warns Damon to stay out of the investigation. Damon is set on helping Alaric but for once in his life, he does what someone tells him and stays out of the investigation.
Elena finds out from Matt that Abby has decided to transition into a vampire—which impresses me. I thought for sure as a former witch who knew that vampires were against the balance of nature, she’d refuse to transition, but it seems like she’s going to do just that. Bonnie and Caroline are up at Abby’s farm helping her adjust and control the cravings. It’s likely that Bonnie will grow close to Jamie while up there and he will probably become Bonnie’s new love interest.
Meanwhile, Stefan is getting the shakes from going cold turkey off the human blood, so Damon decides to distract his brother (which leads to one of the greatest lines in the episode: “Dear Diary, Today a chipmunk asked me my name. I told him it was Joe. That lie will haunt me for eternity.) He is also reminded of a previous bout of serial murders that took place in 1912 in Mystic Falls. This is the first time in nearly 50 years that Stefan and Damon cross paths again. A relative of theirs was murdered and even though Damon is still pissed off at Stefan for turning him into a vampire, he agrees to go for a drink with Stefan and catch up. Thanks to Lexi’s tutelage Stefan is no longer a ripper and surviving on animals. He tries to tell Damon a new way of life, but Damon isn’t having any of that. It is there they come across the tough as nails vampire, Sage who is beating the crap out of men in the boxing ring.
In present day at the grill, Stefan and Damon go there for a drink and Rebekah happens to be there chatting it up with Carol Lockwood. No doubt she is trying to find where the White Oak Tree is, but Mayor Lockwood has no ideas. Back in the 1800s the Salvatore’s owned the lumber mills so Rebekah decides to go press her luck with Damon and Stefan to try and find answers.
At this point, I’m slightly bored. Elena has barely been in this episode at all and the parts she IS in, she’s with Matt or calling Dr. Fell out on her shit. Dr. Fell said Alaric had quit the temper in his past and was in jail 4 times before he was 21 for fighting and that back at Duke Isobel had to file a restraining order against Alaric before they were married. Somehow I’m not buying this. Also, Elena, what the hell are you doing confronting a possible serial killer alone? Are you out of your mind?! Have somebody go with you! And while we are at it, I have something to say on that subject. Look writers, listen to me: STOP PUTTING HER WITH MATT ALREADY! WE ALL KNOW ELENA ISN’T GOING TO GET BACK WITH MATT SO JUST STOP!
You know why this episode is also boring? Because Klaus and Elijah aren’t in it! I’m serious! The last few episodes have been AWESOME because the Originals have been causing trouble for our trio. Rebekah on her own isn’t very threatening. Come on Klaus entertain me. Perhaps he is brooding and writing emo poetry over Caroline’s betrayal. Who knows?
Rebekah tries to chat with the boys and they humor her for a few minutes before Damon tells her to piss off because they are having a boys day. The only interesting aspects of their brief chat was: Rebekah knows Sage and according to Damon sex with Sage was AWESOME.
Matt and Elena decide to play a little game of breaking and entering into Dr. Fells house to see if they can find anything to prove Alaric is innocent. Elena remembers the hallowed out wall in her Lake House closet and suspects that since Meredith is a founding family she has something similar and wouldn’t you guess? She’s right. She has a stash of documents on her ex-boyfriend, on Bill Forbes and on Alaric, as well as an old Gilbert journal, which begs the reason why a Fell has something that belongs to a Gilbert. To make a long story short, Meredith comes home, they hide in the closet, Meredith fakes leaving the house and BOOM they are busted when they come out of the closet. After getting lectured by Liz Forbes they are basically sent home. Wow. Glad to know breaking and entering isn’t a serious offense if the kids are your daughters best friend and ex- boyfriend. Liz should get a medal for best cop ever./sarcasm
Back at the bar, Stefan and Damon are playing darts and thinking more about the past. We flash back to Damon having an encounter with Sage. She catches him feeding and disposing of a woman while she shows him women can be for pleasure, even if he is spoken for—keep in mind, this is 1912. Damon is still madly in love with Katherine and is on a quest to free her. Back in present day the boys ponder what this connection has to do with the murders of 1912 and admit they both suspected each other seeing as the killer could have been a vampire.
Rebekah comes over to join their conversation uninvited again and it is revealed that Sage was obsessed with Finn 900 years ago. Um…wow. Okay. Finn didn’t’ seem like that much of a catch but uh glad to know somebody wants a piece of him? Since you know, I’m sure Elijah, Kol and Klaus got all the Viking panties thrown at them and stuff. Damon has a hard time believing it, but, eh, different strokes for different folks.
Stefan is getting jittery inside the bar and getting cravings so he leaves. Damon and Rebekah follow. Damon has basically had enough of this shit and is determined to get Stefan to learn to control is bloodlust once and for all. He compels someone going into the bar to stay put and begins to feed on her. He knows the scent of blood will drive Stefan crazy but tells Stefan to drink some and then he’ll heal and erase the girls memory. If Stefan refuses to feed, Rebekah will kill the girl. You know, Rebekah, for someone who has very little time to find a tree that can KILL YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY you are spending WAY too much time with the Salvatore brothers. It’s called priorities.
Stefan drinks the blood and wouldn’t you know it, drops the body just as Elena and Matt turn the corner. Elena seems shocked and Stefan seems devastated that she saw him like this. It is more and more evident with each confrontation that Stefan still madly loves Elena and wants her back, despite his protests that she’d be “better off without him.” Matt forces Elena to leave the scene of the crime and takes her home. He asks her what she saw in Stefan, and Elena’s answer was “It felt like he’d love me forever, like he’d never die.” Matt understands the significance of that after the loss of her parents. When he asks about what she sees in Damon she admits he just snuck up on her.
Back at home, Stefan is brooding over Elena catching him and when Damon goes to talk to him, Stefan asks why Damon suddenly cares. Is it to make up for kissing Elena? Why doesn’t Damon go back to hating him? Damon’s answer is shocking and sweet all at the same time.
Flash back to 1912. Damon asks Stefan to go for a drink with him (and by drink he means human blood) and Stefan gets carried away. So carried away he bites the head off his victim. Damon ‘tries’ to help him but Stefan runs off screaming that he doesn’t need help. And thus the ripper in Stefan was born anew.
Back in present day time Damon tells Stefan that he could have helped Stefan then. Could have forced Stefan to let him help him, but he didn’t want to. Damon was still too angry over Katherine’s imprisonment and being forced to turn into a vampire to help. But now, Stefan is all he has left and he wants to help him overcome his bloodlust so he’ll be here every second of every day until Stefan doesn’t need help anymore.
Doing more research on the murders of 1912 (after Stefan walks in on Damon playing the piano—which is pretty awesome) they discover that the serial killer was never caught, but that 10 years later, Samantha Gilbert (granddaughter of Jonathan Gilbert) confessed to the murders. Damon said that would be weird considering he killed her before the confession. They deduce that she must have had a ring. Only two rings were passed down. Ric had one and the other is with Jeremy.
Meanwhile, Alaric comes home and Elena hugs him like crazy and is just glad he’s alright. Later on Meredith has the balls to show up to try and talk to Ric and like an idiot, Ric lets her in the house.
Elena is upstairs reading the journal of Samantha Gilbert who feels like she’s losing time and blacking out. Downstairs Meredith is making the argument that Ric is the serial killer even if he doesn’t consciously know he’s doing it and they suspect it has something to do with the ring. How many times can one cheat death before it starts taking a toll on him? All of the weapons belonged to Ric after all. Elena comes down and suspects that Meredith may indeed be telling the truth.
Wow. Okay. So end of episode. It wasn’t GREAT but it wasn’t the worst episode of TVD yet. The disappointing lack of screen time Elena had with the Salvatore boys is mainly what is feeding my annoyance. I want Stelena back by the end of the season. I also want Klaus to live and be a permanent factor on the show. Klaus is way too awesome to die. And realistically Klaus is no longer a threat to them! He got what he wanted. Klaus just wants to live his life in peace, steal priceless artifacts from museums and draw Caroline. Leave him alone! I’m serious! Don’t make me go Chris Crocker on your ass, writers!
Next week’s trailer shows Sage coming to visit Damon and Stefan in present day. It looks like she and Damon are getting it on in the shower and then engaging in a possible creepy threesome with Rebekah. Not cool. Oh and Alaric is flipping his shit and trying to hurt Meredith. So yes, it looks like Alaric is our serial killer. :( Sad times.
Questions to ponder:
-Where was Klaus? Was he writing emo poetry in the dark while listening to “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” on repeat?
-Is Sage basically a dead woman walking as most new characters that are introduced are?
-Will Bonnie make Abby a daylight ring?
-Are Elijah and Kat at some roadside hotel having sex?
-Is Alaric as good as gone?
See you next week!
